Remaining in One Place

"One abba said, 'If some temptation arises in the place where you dwell in the desert, do not leave that place...For if you leave it then, no matter where you go, you will find the same temptation waiting for you.'"

From Kathleen Norris, Acedia & Me: A Marriage, Monks, and a Writer's Life

Got this book for my 30th birthday last month. Wish Norris would have written it when I was 15 instead. Looking forward to a slow Christmas afternoon to read more. How crazy is the idea of spending a year weaving baskets and then burning them all? And more importantly, what does that say about my/our need to be doing something substantive without understanding the process? Can't wait to delve more fully into Acedia & Me. Enjoy the read.

Vanessa - this book is amazing. I don't know how much Norris you have read, but you are in for a challenging and incredibly rewarding read. I have recently had the privilege of reading two books that compete for the year's best for me and this is one of them. Enjoy delving into "Acedia." It is worthy of the investment of your time and energy.
