JW[AC] Art Auction Reflections
The JW[AC] Art Auction was a great night and a real success.
Tons of people showed up. In fact, if (when) we do this next year, we may need to change locale. Between the number of people there and the frenetic movement of people trying to get their names on bid cards it got to be a little crazy for awhile.
The art that was donated from people within and without the JW community was really great. A small part of the band Oriole Post showed up and played music (though they were forced to play in a stairwell after awhile due to crowding issues). And people came prepared and very generously bought art. It looks like the total raised from the night was around $6000.
Amazing.
Also, we asked four different artists to design t-shirts that were/are on sale to benefit the Advent Conspiracy. They really turned out well. I'll see if I can figure a way to get some shot of them posted. You can see them hanging below.
Finally, on a personal note, I was happy to leave with two pieces of art. One was a photograph of a man in South Africa taken by Moe Didde. The other was a piece of art by Ben Palmer that is generated photographically, though I am not sure exactly how Ben does what he does. Needless to say, I am thrilled. If you go to Ben's site and look through his abstract pieces you can get an idea of the artwork that came home with me.
Thanks to all who contributed art, who purchased it, or who simply came to enjoy a great night. And to Jannele Mastin who did a fantastic job putting it all together, as well as the team of people who made the night such a success, too. You all are the best.
Found this wonderful quote from Bonhoeffer, thought you might find it interesting.
A prison cell, in which one waits, hopes ... and is completely dependent on the fact that the door of freedom has to be opened from the outside, is not a bad picture of Advent.
