Pokot Water Report

2686361790 Cfb61Ed529

Stan Patyrak from Living Water International recently sent me a report describing the completion of the well-project that Jacob's Well helped to develop in Pokot in the western region of Kenya.

Pokot is a drought-stricken land, as you probably already know if you read this blog and have watched any of the videos I have posted that tell the story of the people of this place. Above is one of the pictures Beth Mercer took that give an on-the-ground sense of just how dry and desperate the earth is here. She titled the photo, "the land forgot how to accept the rain." In the report Stan sent me, he included GPS coordinates so that we can get a sense of where the wells are in relation to the surrounding area. Below I will list the GPS coordinates which you can then copy and paste into either Google Maps or Google Earth. You cannot get as close as you might like, but you can get close enough to get a sense of this land and the challenges its people face. Beth's photo shows the effects of drought on the ground in one specific place. GPS allows us to see a region defined by drought.

Being part of the answer to these people's prayers for something as simple as water is why we invite people to celebrate Christmas differently. This is one of the many reasons why we are choosing a different orientation than the one that our culture gives us, that says life comes when we enlarge ourselves by feeding our appetites, by constant consuming.

Take a few minutes and copy and paste these coordinates (just the coordinates) into Google. If no satellite image appears then simply back the image up until it scales to the appropriate size (hit the minus sign on the scale).

Longonesia: 01 34.078n, 034 57.827e
Nemuro: 01 33.953n, 035 00.641e
Cheptyon: 01 32.46n 035 57.180e
Orolwa is about 4 km from Nemuro

Then take a few more to download and read Living Water report about the impact of water in Pokot and how the wells we helped to dig there are making a difference in people's lives.

Finally, make sure to be at Jacob's Well next Sunday when Stan joins us for worship and spends part of the time talking with me about how God is using water to transform life. Thanks for conspiring with us this year.
